Supporting Individual Rights
Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have the same rights as anyone else, including the right to live independently, make choices about their own lives, and participate in the community. However, they may require support and assistance from caregivers and provider agencies to exercise these rights.
Ensuring Safety & Wellbeing
The protective responsibilities of caregivers and provider agencies include ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals with IDD, protecting them from harm, and advocating for their rights. This includes ensuring that individuals with IDD have access to appropriate services and supports, including medical care, education, and community resources.
