Renew Certification 1 - Medication Administration & Health Related Activities
Annual renewal of certification 1 is offered as 2 hours online + in-person skill check; blended learning continuing education.
The combined one page skill checlist is included in the course as a downloadable and printable. Relevant skill check may be performed by an experienced, certified supervisor or nurse (minimally oral medications). Then scan or take a photo and send to [email protected].
While the course can be somewhat repetitive with the same skills reviewed year after year, some of the information included is updated to reflect current information useful to direct support professionals (DSP). To renew cert 1 now, click the button above.

Course Requirements
- Application must be completed: page 1 by the employer, page two by the student.
- Renewal course must be completed prior to 60 days past the expiration date or the entire initial course must be repeated.
- Students may renew up to six months before the expiration date.
- Relevant skill check is based on what students actually do at work. Additional skills can be taught and checked as care needs change.
- It is the responsibility of the student to check that the renewal has been entered (see link below).
- Certified RN Trainers will teach the course and enter into the MAIS (medication administration information system) within about 1 week.
Approved Med Admin
The most current approved curriculum provided by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities, taught by certified RN Trainers.
Oral Medication Demo
Oral medication administration is required as the minimal each staff must be able to perform safely. This applies to anyone seeking to renew certification 1 annually.
Relevant Skill Check
Skills that staff actually perform at work should be checked annually. The employer is responsible to ensure skills are updated to reflect current skills used.
